AI SAYS THIS SHARE COULD 10X (And We Just Bought It!) [UPDATED SEPTEMBER 18]

Update September 18th: What’s Changed Since Our First Analysis

When Duolingo was first described in this article as a potential 10-bagger, the stock was demonstrating strong fundamentals, profitability, and expansion plans into new subjects such as math and chess. That long-term growth story remains intact. What has shifted significantly, however, is the market sentiment.

In recent months, Duolingo’s share price declined from approximately $530 to around $285, largely due to announcements from major technology companies. OpenAI introduced a language-learning demo using ChatGPT-5, Apple unveiled AirPods with real-time translation, and Google presented auto-dubbing tools for Meet. Each of these developments triggered heavy selling, as if Duolingo’s entire business model were suddenly at risk.

This reaction appears to be an overstatement. While these innovations may be adjacent to Duolingo’s mission, they do not substitute the company’s offering: a structured, gamified, and habit-forming platform for learning. Translation is not equivalent to education. Just as millions of users continue to pay for Spotify despite numerous free alternatives, language learners are likely to keep subscribing to Duolingo for its convenience, engagement, and community features.

Fundamentals Still Intact

Despite share price volatility, the fundamental outlook remains solid. Both revenue and net income are increasing, the company continues to allocate heavily to research and development, and gross margins remain among the highest in the sector. Even with a modest contraction, gross margin stands at 71%, a level rarely achieved in the industry.

Valuation indicators such as Enterprise Value/Sales suggest that the stock may currently be undervalued. Additionally, Duolingo benefits from a loyal global user base, is advancing in AI-driven personalization, and is actively expanding its model beyond language learning. From a qualitative standpoint, Duolingo remains one of the most compelling companies in the edtech sector.

Market Sentiment: From Panic to Opportunity

Paradoxically, the concerns around AI-driven competition may be generating a buying opportunity. Technical indicators highlight oversold conditions, while trading volumes have surged. Historically, similar market patterns have preceded significant rebounds.

In essence, the market has penalized Duolingo merely for being part of the AI conversation, while overlooking the fact that artificial intelligence is also integral to Duolingo’s own strategy. Rather than being disrupted, the company is actively incorporating these technologies to enhance learning outcomes and user retention.

Outlook

The initial assessment that Duolingo could become a 10-bagger remains valid. The recent price decline has arguably made the long-term upside even more attractive.

The upcoming quarterly earnings will be crucial in assessing whether AI-related concerns have had a tangible impact on user growth or revenue. To date, however, the data indicates the opposite: growth momentum remains strong.

Challenges persist, including dependence on Apple and Google platforms and several minor legal disputes, but at its core, Duolingo continues to be a profitable, fast-growing, and difficult-to-replicate business with substantial expansion potential.

In summary, the long-term vision is unchanged. Current market pessimism may offer investors a second entry point at more attractive valuations.

📌 Key Points:

  1. Duolingo just turned a profit and shows signs of becoming a potential multibagger stock.

  2. The company is expanding its AI-powered learning platform beyond languages, entering new high-potential markets like chess and math.

  3. All analysis, from fundamentals to sentiment and qualitative scoring, has been done using Forecaster, a complete AI-powered financial analysis platform.

We just invested in Duolingo, and we think it could be a great opportunity for long-term investors. This language-learning app is more than just a mobile game – it’s a profitable, fast-growing, AI-driven business with serious potential. And in this article, I’ll explain why it might become a 10-bagger, meaning a stock that could multiply its value by 10 times.

Let’s dive in.

What Is Duolingo?

Duolingo is a tech company that creates software for learning languages in a fun and engaging way. The experience feels more like a game than a traditional lesson – users earn points, maintain streaks, and level up while learning Spanish, French, Japanese, and many other languages.

A great introduction to the company is a TED Talk by its CEO, where he explains how they made learning addictive, just like social media (but in a positive way). That talk made a big impact on me because it shows what’s behind the company’s strategy: use gamification to make education enjoyable and habit-forming.

This approach has been so successful that people often refer to other startups as “the Duolingo of math” or “the Duolingo of finance.” But Duolingo was the first to do it at scale.

A Startup That Just Turned Profitable

Thanks to Forecaster, our financial analysis tool, we were able to look deeply into Duolingo’s numbers. The company just became profitable in 2023, and even though it’s still relatively small with $748 million in revenue and $88 million in profit – both revenue and net income are growing fast.

Before 2023, Duolingo was losing money. But now the company is showing real profitability, and the ratios like ROI and net margin are improving quarter by quarter.

With Forecaster, we used the AI agent to summarize the company’s latest earnings call. Here’s what stood out:

  • Daily active users grew 49% year-over-year

  • Strong focus on AI-driven expansion

  • Plans to expand beyond languages into math and chess

And this is the exciting part: they’re not just staying in the language space.

Expanding Beyond Languages

Duolingo is now applying its successful learning model to new subjects. Math is already in the works, and chess will be added to the app by the end of the year.

Why is this important?

Because chess is booming. If you go on YouTube or Twitch, you’ll see how popular it has become over the past few years. I’m not great at chess myself – I even lose to my six-year-old nephew – but it’s clear that there’s a big, passionate market out there.

If Duolingo can make language learning addictive, they can likely do the same with chess, math, and even subjects like music or finance. This opens the door to massive growth.

The Forecaster Qualitative Scorecard

One of the most useful tools in Forecaster is the Qualitative Scorecard. This evaluates a business beyond just numbers, answering key questions to see how strong a company really is. Here’s how Duolingo scores (8/10 overall):

  • Is it hard to copy? ✅ Yes. Thanks to a mix of proprietary algorithms, a huge dataset, gamification, and a loyal global user base, it would take years and millions to replicate.

  • Do customers love it? ✅ Yes. Duolingo has over 4 stars on app stores with millions of users.

  • Has it shown resilience? ✅ Yes. Duolingo thrived during COVID-19 and managed costs well during the 2022 tech slowdown.

  • Does it spend more on R&D than marketing? ✅ Yes, they’re investing a lot in AI.

  • Do employees stay long? 🟡 Average is 2–3 years – normal for a tech startup.

  • What if the CEO leaves? 🟡 The CEO is important, but most users don’t even know who he is – the product speaks for itself.

  • Is the revenue recurring? ✅ Yes. Duolingo uses a monthly subscription model, providing steady cash flow.

  • Can they raise prices? ✅ Yes. They’ve increased prices recently and didn’t lose customers, showing strong brand loyalty.

  • Have revenue and profit grown in recent years? ✅ Absolutely.

  • Is there room to grow? ✅ Yes. The digital learning market is growing through 2030, and Duolingo is expanding into new topics.

With a solid 8 out of 10, this is a strong qualitative profile. And if we were more confident about CEO succession, it could easily be 9/10.

Market Sentiment: The Market Mood Meter

Another powerful tool inside Forecaster is the Market Mood Meter. This indicator is a mix of three technical tools:

  • Advanced DPO (Detrended Price Oscillator): shows price cycles and momentum.

  • Speed: tracks the acceleration of price movements.

  • Wyckoff: a method that identifies accumulation and distribution phases in the market.

Forecaster combines these three into a single sentiment indicator, and right now it shows that Duolingo is in oversold territory. Historically, when this happened in the past three years, it marked major buying opportunities.

Valuation and the Net Income Flywheel

Another key insight from Forecaster is what we call the Net Income Line or Balance Point. This is where the stock price aligns with the company’s net income.

When the price is far above the net income trend, it’s often overvalued. When it’s under, like now, it could be undervalued – giving us a buying opportunity.

Looking at the TTM (Trailing Twelve Months) net income curve, we can see it’s growing steadily. If the price catches up with this line, the upside could be huge.

Final Thoughts: A Potential 10-Bagger?

We bought Duolingo shares on June 27, and we’re confident in its long-term potential. The company is:

  • Profitable and growing

  • Expanding into new markets

  • Supported by a loyal user base

  • Difficult to replicate

  • Using AI to scale its model across many subjects

From a fundamental, qualitative, and market sentiment point of view, Duolingo checks all the boxes. This isn’t just an app; it’s a platform that can grow far beyond languages.

If you want to understand more about the company, I highly recommend watching the TED Talk by the CEO. It’s only 12 minutes and 55 seconds and gives real insight into what makes Duolingo different.

And remember, everything in this analysis was done using Forecaster, including the AI summary, fundamental ratios, market mood meter, and qualitative scorecard. With tools like this, investing becomes more informed, structured, and efficient.

We believe Duolingo has what it takes to become a 10-bagger. Let’s see what the future holds.
