Tenable’s Fundamental Resilience

Tenable Holdings operates in the high-growth cybersecurity sector, a critical area as businesses increasingly prioritize digital protection. By the end of 2023, the company had secured 44,000 clients, including 60% of Fortune 500 companies, reflecting its strong market presence. Revenue growth remains impressive, and the recent shift to profitability marks a turning point.

Key financial metrics reinforce this outlook:

  • Altman Z-Score: At 2.36, Tenable sits in a moderate risk zone for bankruptcy but is nearing the “safe zone” (above 2.99), indicating acceptable stability.
  • Piotroski F-Score: A steady rise since 2022 places Tenable in a “green zone,” signaling strong operational momentum.
  • Beneish M-Score: This score indicates a low likelihood of earnings manipulation, affirming the company’s financial transparency.

While Tenable has issued additional shares—likely to fund expansion—its operational efficiency continues to improve, balancing growth with resilience. Fundamentally, Tenable is well-positioned for long-term success.

The Technical & Statistical Signals We Followed

Our decision was equally informed by technical and statistical analysis, leveraging three critical indicators:

  • Accumulation Phase: The Wyckoff indicator revealed a steady increase in buyers relative to sellers since June of the previous year, despite a sideways price movement. This pattern, known as accumulation, suggests growing investor interest ahead of a potential breakout.
  • Price Speed Divergence: The Speed Indicator, which measures the velocity of a Hull moving average, showed a divergence: while prices hit lower lows, the speed of these declines weakened. This formula—Velocity = (Current Value – Previous Value) / Number of Periods—confirms a slowing downward trend, often a precursor to reversal.
  • Support Levels Confirmed: The Detrended Price Oscillator (DPO) identified consistent support zones, highlighted in green, reinforcing stability during this consolidation phase.

These signals collectively pointed to an undervalued stock with upside potential, prompting our entry.

Is Tenable a Buy for the Long Term?

Looking ahead, we see significant potential in Tenable Holdings, though risks remain. Here’s our assessment:

  • Growth & Profitability: The transition to profitability in 2024, with a trailing twelve-month (TTM) loss narrowing to $36 million, signals improving financial health. Revenue growth remains robust, supported by a thriving cybersecurity market.
  • Technical Indicators Are Bullish: The current accumulation phase and rising buying volume suggest the stock may break out of its range in the near term.
  • Industry Tailwinds: As cyber threats escalate, Tenable’s expertise positions it to capture increasing demand, particularly among enterprise clients.

We anticipate solid performance in 2025, provided the company sustains the identified trend, its profitability and market momentum continues to build.
